According to an interview Cara gave with Rap Up, this particular song held a lot of meaning for many people who listened to her story about finding acceptance and appreciation for yourself. Cara is well-known for her ability to incorporate songs about mental health, compassion and self-love in her songs. Every song Cara sings comes directly from her struggles with insomnia, mental illness and other health issues. According to a Reuters Interview, her album has been described as a semi-tumultuous and half-perfected. She tells people that she experienced growth through therapy. Alessia Cara grew up in Toronto in Canada. She was born on July 11, 1996 to parents with Italian origins. In 2010, her parents purchased her a brand new guitar which she utilized to develop her passion for the music. In 2013, she covered the songs she loved for YouTube which is a well-known platform for media. The goal was to prove that she had the ability and the confidence to pursue a career as an artist. One of her covers, Sweater Weather, was what got her noticed. EP Entertainment gave her the opportunity to create and write her own songs.
